Hickory Hills Holy Smoke

  Date of Birth:  02/04/08
  Sex:  Jack
  Color:  Black w/star NLP
  Present Height (07/23/08):  27 1/2"
  Sire:  Green Acres Smokey Star
         30" - dark brown/gray-dun
  Dam:  Short ASSets Jazzybelle
         31" - dark brown NLP

He was late ......... but well worth waiting for!
It's a boy!  He was due on January 29, but the joke was on us; Jazzy knew what she was doing and made us wait until she was ready to surprise us with an absolutely gorgeous little black jack with a big white star on his forehead!  His dad is Smoke, and we couldn't help it; we had to name him "Holy Smoke!" :)  No other name would fit!  He is an outstanding foal, and he has his dad's fantastic, laid-back disposition!

Sold
Many thanks to Copper Star Miniature Donkeys, Woodbine, MD

Brad and Emily have big plans for this little guy!  They've put together a nice group of jennys, and Holy Smoke will be the #1 man around the farm!

Look for Emily at the 2009 Great Celebration!  She and Holy Smoke are planning to make their show ring debut!

  Date of Birth:  03/25/08
  Sex:  Jack
  Color:  Brown/gray/white spotted
  Sire:  CSF Major Money Maker
         31 1/4" - brown/gray/white spotted
  Dam:  Thomas Farms Itsy Bitsey
         32 1/2" - gray/white spotted

Harv said that he would never show a spot in a halter class, and now he is eating his own words ............. he can't wait until this little guy is six months old and ready to wean; he has it all; conformation, size, disposition and color!  Of course, Easy is only four months old, so I have plenty of time to spoil him, and Harv has plenty of time to wait!

" Sold "

And thank you so much Livia and Vince McElhaney of Leander, Texas

Livia and Vince are "newbies" to the wonderful world of miniature donkeys, but I've assured them that Easy will be a good teacher with his wonderful outgoing personality and his love to play!

Hickory Hills Zig Zag

 Date of Birth:  04/07/08
  Color:  Gray/White Spotted
  Present Height (10/23/08):  27"
Sire:  Hickory Hills Zig N. Bock
         28 1/2" - gray/white spotted
  Dam:  Hauenstein's Tinker
         29 3/4" - gray-dun

What a cutie!  This little one was born the day after we got home from the National Show; we slept in a bit later than usual, and when we opened the blinds in the breakfast area, there he stood (all 19" of him); he was fluffed out and ready to play!  His mom is a tiny, petite jenny and doesn't make a nice milk bag until after the baby is born, so it's really hard to predict exactly "when" we should be looking for a foal!  Mom is a very quiet/shy jenny, but this little one definitely has dad's wonderful, outgoing personality; he is ready to play 24/7!

Golden's Point Mildred

PMF Daisy

- Sold -
Many thanks to Susan Phillips of Oxford, Mississippi

Susan first saw minis on TV and immediately fell in love!  She has chosen these four mature bred jennys to start her herd, and we know that they will bring her lots of love and happiness for many years to come!  Kasey, Asai, Mildred (Millie) and Daisy are each bred to a different jack; two will have foals in August and the other two will deliver in the spring, 2009.  I'm betting these babies won't lack for attention!  :)

It is hard on my heart to let my mature jennys move to a new home; they are like good friends and have blessed us with beautiful babies, but Susan has promised to send updates and pictures of the foals when they are born.

Hickory Hills Joleen

Hickory Hills Lexie Lanier

Country Place Julie Ann

- Sold -
Thanks and Best of Luck to Maggie McDonald
in Eros, Louisiana

Maggie is a "newbie" to miniature donkeys; one of her good friends was moving and couldn't take her little 30" herdsire to the new place, so Maggie bought him and has now found the perfect three little jennys for him to romance.  Lexie and Joleen will have to get a bit older before they are ready to breed, but Julie Ann is three years old and ready to flirt!

  Phebe and Marie Ann

Phebe and Marie Ann are two of the sweetest little brood jennys on the place, but although they were bred in Texas, their next foals will be born in France!  Phebe is bred to My World Red Alert and is due to foal late October, and Marie Ann will have her baby next spring; she is bred to little 28" spotted Ziggy!  It was so hard to part with these two; they've both been with us for several years, but I know that Carole will take good care of them, and she's promised to send pictures!

Update:  Phebe had a tiny little jack foal!  Carole says he is "perfect!"  She named him Tiamo which means 'I love you" in Italian!  Here's a few pictures of the little guy that she sent for us to share!

Carole has some great pictures on her website (www.anes-miniatures.com) of her donkeys leaving Texas on their way to their new home in France.

Many thanks to
Carole De Koster
   of France

Carole was looking for a couple of smaller, bred gray jennys, and I sent her pictures of three that we could offer her.  She selected Phebe and Marie Ann because the third little jenny has a black nose, and Carole said that she preferred her donkeys not have a black nose.

Can you hear me laughing?  Just two short weeks later, Carole sent me this picture of the cutest little black nosed donkey that had just been born at her farm.  After 10 years of breeding minis, for Carole, this was a first!

You can visit Carole and her donkeys (including the little one with the black nose that already has won Carole's heart) at www.anes-miniatures.com.

Happy Acres Priscilla
- Sold-

Here's "granny" Priscilla; she is the most delightful donkey ever; she never has a bad day!  She is in excellent health, foals easily and loves to be a mom!  Her foals are always laid-back and very playful!  She is bred to Ziggy, our 28" spot, for a spring 2008 foal.

Priscilla (Grannie, as we tenderly call her) will be going to live at Molasses Meadows with Stella and Pearl and their BIG sister, Coalie!  Thanks to Glen and Sara Smith for falling in love with Priscilla!  Actually, Priscilla picked them; she follows them all over (and I mean all over) our place whenever they come to visit!

Stephanie Dove
Brayers Are Us Miniature Donkeys
Steph is putting together a nice herd of sorrels and needed to add some of that good old Rosebud bloodline to the mix!

We have three more sorrels due, and if one of them isn't a great little red jenny like Twist and Gypsy, Steph even said that we could keep one of "hers"
to show next year!

We will be delivering these little ones to Steph's place about the first of the year, and that could be bad for our donkey budget!  We can never leave Karnes City without falling in love with at least a couple of her donkeys!

We had so much fun the day John Kelley came all the way from Paris (Texas, that is) to meet  our donkeys!  We visited in every pasture, and touched every donkey; there is no better way to spend time than out in the donkey pens!

John is selling part of his business (Kelley's Honey Farms in Chicota, Texas) and will be spending most of his time out in the pasture with his donkeys!  He told us that he has worked 24/7 for as long as he can remember, and now he is ready to play!  John has a huge heart for miniature donkeys, and we wish him much success and enjoyment in the years ahead!

Thanks again to John Kelley and his family

By the way, the next time you buy honey, look for Kelley's Honey; John gave us a sample, and it is delicious.  You just can't beat biscuits and honey for breakfast!  Kelley's Honey was #1 at the State Fair of Texas!

Many thanks to Mic and Rusty Cotten for purchasing Norma Jean and Tequila
and leaving them here at Hickory Hill
for us to show this year!

Both of these girls were sired by Tangueray Gin, and Norma Jean is a full sister to one of their herdsires, Junipero Gin, and he was very successful for us in the show ring last year, but this year, he is busy at
Cotten's Half Ass Ranch romancing the girls!

Update:  Norma Jean made her debut at the SDMS Spring Fling in April and won the yearling jenny class at eleven months of age!  She will be back in the show ring again this fall!

   Bunny & Cindy

Congratulations and welcome to the wonderful world of miniature donkeys to Emily
Gollner!

When Emily emailed that she couldn't find any miniature donkeys in her area, I sent her pictures of several young jennys that we had available, and without hesitation, she selected Bunny and Cindy, the "Barbie girls!"  These two petite jennys are adorable and will be the talk of the town in Woodbine, Maryland.

Emily teaches school and had a busy summer planned that included a honeymoon cruise, but she managed to find time to get her barn "downsized" and ready for her two new girls.

When we got the call that Bunny and Cindy had arrived at their new home safely, you could hear the excitement in Emily's voice; in fact,
she told us "they are perfect!"

Here's Emily sharing a hug with the girls and telling them that they better go give Brad a donkey hug!

And here are Bunny and Cindy doing just what mom told them to do ................. "charming dad!"

   Red Rover

- SOLD -

When Steve asked Beth what she wanted for her birthday, she said something that started with "R" so he guessed a radio for her new truck .................... wrong!  It was Red Rover, and we are excited that he will be staying in Texas; in fact, he will be making his home with Beth and Steve in New Caney along with Cotton, Jake and Magellan.

Beth showed Red Rover at halter twice for us this year and placed in the ribbons both times; she's planning to show him at halter again next year and then when he is almost three, she is going to teach him to drive.  His disposition is perfect for a driving donkey, and his beautiful sorrel color is a plus!  Look for Beth and Red Rover in the winner's circle!

Joe was looking for geldings when he first visited us, but when he got ready to "stock" his new donkey farm, he purchased two older bred jennys and two yearling jennys ............... but then called back to see if our trailer would hold six donkeys!  He just couldn't get these two boys off his mind!  I laughed and told him that he, indeed, had a good case of donkey fever!

Dr. Anna Clarke brings over 40 years of veterinary expertise to the miniature donkey field
and a lifelong passion for donkeys that hail from her native Ireland.

Anna P. Clarke of Deer Haven Ranch has formed a partnership with Billie Wollam to raise and breed quality miniature donkeys.  Billie is an experienced horse woman, and presently owns one of Anna’s miniature donkeys, two beautiful paint horses, and two sorrel mules which she keeps on her 40 acre ranch in the same area.  Like the rest of us involved with miniature donkeys she has been bewitched by them and is now anxious to get started in this new venture.

Congratulations and good luck with the new partnership!

Many thanks to Jim Flaum for letting us introduce him to the wonderful world of miniature donkeys!

This little jenny and her best friend, Red Feather, are the first miniature donkeys for this family, and we know they are already wrapped around Jim's heartstrings  because they have been in Scottsdale for two weeks, and I haven't heard much from Jim!  When I email and ask him if everything is alright, he sends back a note that says all is great, and he is busy sitting out in the pasture with the girls and reading his new donkey books!

   Peppermint Pattie

Sold
and many thanks to Laura Butler of Mingus, Texas
for falling in love with this beautiful little redhead!

We took Pattie with us to the SDMS Grand Finale Show in Corsicana for Laura to see, and I wondered how I would recognize her as she and I had never met in person.  We hadn't been there long before I heard a loud scream; when I turned around there was no mistaking who had made that noise!  It was Laura running as fast as she could to our stall with tears running down her cheeks and squealing "is that my donkey, is that my little red girl?"  It was definitely love at first sight!

Look for Pattie in the show ring next year!  Laura is already planning her new show wardrobe ............... something in powder blue!

Recently, a helicopter landed in our pasture and out hopped Jack and Diane; they came to meet our donkeys. After rubbing on donkeys, giving donkey hugs and yes, a few butt scratches ― they had a good case of "donkey fever!"

They selected two older, bred jennys to teach them the "ropes" of donkey ownership and we are delighted that Rachel and Ginger will be staying together.  We know they are good donkey teachers; they taught us!  They also picked out two young jennys, and we will breed them in the fall for their first foals. And last, but certainly not least, they chose Giz, Mr. Personality Plus!  We feel good that these little donkeys have moved to a good home with lots of love!

Many thanks to Jerry and Melodie Duke
Emilees Mini ASSettes
Smokerise, Alabama

Jerry, Melodie and their daughter, Emilee, are just beginning to build their herd of miniature donkeys and have six jennys.  They selected J.D. and a light sorrel jenny, Punkin Pie, to join their family of donkeys.  They are planning to show J.D. this spring, and next year they will be looking for a little sorrel foal as Punkin is bred to our dark sorrel herdsire, My World Red Alert.

        Hickory Hill's Levi Tag

 Sold

Many thanks to Greg and Jessica Parsons
 Vuelo De Noche Farm
 Boerne, Texas

Jessica fell in love with Levi Tag when he was just a few weeks old and has been waiting a long time for him to be old enough to wean.  Well, that time has finally come, and Levi will be moving to his new home soon, but we know that it won't take him long to teach Jessica and Greg how to give donkey hugs and butt scratches!

Sold
Many thanks to Ron and Barbara Johnson
Conroe, Texas

Ron will be retiring soon, and the Johnson family will be moving to "The Spread" in Oakwood, Texas.  When they get their fencing and barn building complete, Ron is going to teach Buddy and Moses to pull a cart full of granddaughters!  We have always thought they would be perfect for cart pulling and are somewhat jealous that we haven't found time to train them ourselves.  The good thing is they won't be moving far; we are almost neighbors, and we will still get to visit and watch their training lessons!

Sold
Many thanks to
Jim and Jeanie Knickerbocker
of Winnsboro, Texas

Jim and Jeanie have selected three experienced bred jennys
to start their donkey collection.  Asai, Kasey and Priscilla are wonderful girls and will be great "teachers" for the Knickerbockers!

Jim has already retired and Jeanie will retire in July, but
they won't have much time to be bored ................ they will have their first baby donkey in June and two more in late summer and early fall.  Let the fun begin!
