Hickory Hills Broadway Joe
(a.k.a.'Hollywood')

DOB: 09/08/10
Color: red
Hollywood is a fantastic animal to work with! In addition to his
outstanding conformation, his disposition
is laid-back and cooperative! We
started him late, meaning that he wasn't a weanling/yearling,
but almost three
years old, and he had to quickly learn the show ring routine.

Tangueray Gin
|
|
DOB: 03/24/01 Current Height: 31" Color: black/dark brown Sire: PMF Lil Bit O'Bandito
|
Tangueray is our 'go-to' man! He loves to pasture with a small herd of jennys to call his own. He is very well-mannered and never gets out of line or rough with his ladies. He will produce beautiful black foals with fabulous 'Betty Grable' eyes when bred to dark brown jennys, and he is also a consistent producer of dark spotted foals when bred to spots!
We have a couple of jennys that are really difficult to get bred, and we use to stress over them, but now we know that if we put them in Tangueray's pasture he will take care of the situation, and we don't have to stress!
Although Tangueray was never shown, we've done very well in the show ring with several of his foals! .
If you are breeding for black or dark spotted foals, Tangueray is as good as they come! He will definitely earn his keep with the quality foals that he produces!
Again, we've never considered selling Tangueray; he's been with us since he was a youngster, but again, with our drought and hay situation here in Texas, we have been forced to cut down on the number of foals that we produce, and it's just not fair to have a good herdsire that produces quality foals and not use him!
![]()
Tangueray has been sold and is now living in Tennessee romancing the jennys at A&B Mini Ranch! Amanda and Brenda were looking for a herdsire and just fell in love with pictures of some of Tangueray's foals that I had shared with them ..................... do you want spots? He can do it! Dark Brown? He can do that do? Black? No problem; he is a 'jack of all colors!'

Hickory Hills Shawnee Princess
In addition to great conformation, Shawnee has an eye-catching color pattern. We showed her once as a yearling at the big 2010 Texas Shoot Out, and she brought home a second place ribbon in a spotted halter class with donkeys all ages, all genders and all sizes. We were delighted! Shawnee's sire is an outstanding performance donkey, and her dam is a wonderful brood jenny. In addition to the Cobra and Short Asset bloodlines, Shawnee's pedigree carries My World, Windcrest and Rearview; she definitely has the right credentials! Around the farm, she is
everyone's friend and never meets a stranger! It is a very difficult decision to offer Shawnee for sale, but the price of hay here in Texas is killing us, and we have been told to prepare for yet another summer of heat and drought! She will be bred to Tangueray Gin who has a good record of producing spotted foals! Fingers crossed!

Looking for an outstanding spotted herdsire! Major is your man, and he is looking for a nice herd of jennys to romance! Major has been our primary spotted herdsire for seven years, and we have been extremely pleased with the babies he has produced for us! We breed him to both solid and spotted jennys, and he always gives us a nice quality baby with his great laid-back disposition, and the majority of the time, it's spotted! We sell most of his foals as weanlings, and those that we have kept have matured into nice jennys and are doing a good job for us in our brood jenny herd. We have decided to offer Major for sale as our breeding program now limits the number of jennys that we have for Major; we are going to breed predominately for reds and blacks. Major is just too good to not use, so we've made the difficult decision to offer him for sale. A good home is a must! If you are breeding for spots now or just starting out, you can't go wrong with Major! He is a gentleman in the pasture and treats his jennys with respect! Major would be an excellent asset to your breeding program!

DOB: 08/30/03 If you are breeding for small and red, don't pass this little guy up; Stars and Stripes is nothing short of fantastic! He is a solid little jack, great laid-back disposition and a real gentleman in the breeding pasture. In addition to breeding our jennys, Stripes gets more outside jennys to breed than any of our herdsires; he definitely earns his 'keep!' He is a real 'eye catcher and has it all in one neat package! Stripes has done a good job for
us, and it's been a hard decision to offer him for sale, but we won't have
any jennys for him next year, He would be an asset to any breeding program, especially one that is breeding for those pretty red babies. He 'trademarks' his babies with good bone structure and wonderful wide/straight legs, and usually they have a star on their foreheads! |

|
If you forget to pay attention to this little one, she will gently nudge you, and then if you still try to ignore her, she will just walk between your legs! Lacey is a beautiful little jenny, and her personality just can't be beat! She has been an absolute joy to have in the nursery!

Thanks so much
to John and Patricia
for falling in love with Concho and Buckskin
|
Concho
DOB: 01/07/04 What can I say ............... this little guy gave us the thrill of a lifetime; at 14 months, he was named Grand Champion Gelding at the 2005 Houston Rodeo and Livestock Show. We were thrilled; well truthfully, we were on top of the world! We had just started showing our donkeys, and it was a big class of geldings of all ages; the older gelding that placed Reserve Champion was at the front of the class lineup and Concho was last in line! We watched as the judge walked from one end to the other for what seemed like an eternity, he finally signed and turned in his scorecard! We waited anxiously as they called out the placings from sixth back to second; Concho and Harv were still "listening" for their back number, and I was about to have a heart attack ............ then, the announcer called Concho's name as Grand Champion! The audience cheered, and I thought Harv was going to skip out of the ring! What a fun day! We showed him on the Texas show circuit for the rest of that year and several times in 2006; he won other Champion/Reserve Champion and firsts/seconds, but the Houston show will always be one of our best memories ever! Concho has a great disposition, is built like a tank and is the perfect size for cart training! He has worked hard for two years and always did a fantastic job for us in the show ring, and he has definitely earned his retirement. I think he really enjoyed staying home with his buddies this year!
|
Buckskin Joe
DOB:
06/28/04
This little gelding has been outstanding in the show ring for us! He didn't really get his opportunity to shine until late 2006 as both he and Concho are the same age, and we always had to make a choice to show one or the other! But when we retired Concho, Buckskin stepped up to the challenge! We couldn't be happier; he has been outstanding! Buckskin filled in where Concho left off; he has won numerous awards, most recently, he was named Grand Champion Gelding at the 2007 San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo! Buckskin has a wonderful, laid-back disposition, but when it's show time .........he is all business; he puts on his game face and stands perfectly for the judge. He is so willing to please, and he too should make an outstanding cart donkey!

"Mac"
Congratulations and thank you to * Mac will stay here in Texas at Hickory Hill for the 2010 show season, and then move to his new home in Georgia as herdsire for Hazlewood Minis!
|
DOB:
05/25/08
The "grand finale" of 2008 was well worth the wait; Mac was born late in the evening three weeks after his due date! We were looking for black as this same cross (Tangueray Gin and Hannibelle) produced Emilee, a beautiful black jenny foal, the last time, but this one is a gorgeous little spotted guy!
Who would have guessed it!
Yes, he's a Tangueray boy, so he has Mac has been registered and shown in both American Donkey and Mule Society (ADMS) and the American Council of Spotted Asses (ACOSA) classes; he has what it takes to win — conformation, attitude and color; he should do very well! If you are looking for WOW, Mac is your guy!

Thank you to * Chili is in now in cart training and will be leaving Texas and going to his new home after the first of the year!
|
DOB:
10/31/05 Chili was named Reserve Champion Gelding at the 2009 San Antonio Livestock Expo and was Grand Champion Halter Gelding at the 2008 Fort Worth Livestock Show.
What can I say
.............. he is outstanding and he is red! What else could you
ask for! Chili's first show was in May, 2006; he was seven months
old and won the yearling jack class! We took him to one/two more
shows last year, but we really didn't campaign him until 2007, as we had
another jack that was four months older than Chili, and they had to show
in the same classes in 2006. Our friends couldn't believe it when we
told them that we were going to geld Chili; they thought we had lost our
minds, but actually we think that was one of the better decisions that we
have made ............. Chili has been a winner for us this year showing
as a young gelding; he is always in the top half of the class and most
often either first or second place, and we only anticipate him getting
better as he gets older and matures. Chili won his class and was
named Reserve Champion Gelding at the SDMS Fall Jamboree in November!
He looked fantastic! |

DOB:

He still loves to run and play with his guy friends, but he is beginning to talk a little 'romance' with the girls! Being out of two spotted parents, it will be interesting to see what he produces, especially when bred to spotted jennys!

of Birth: 04/07/08 What a cutie! This little one was born the day after we got home from the National Show; we slept in a bit later than usual, and when we opened the blinds in the breakfast area, there he stood (all 19" of him); he was fluffed out and ready to play! His mom is a tiny, petite jenny and doesn't make a nice milk bag until after the baby is born, so it's really hard to predict exactly "when" we should be looking for a foal! Mom is a very quiet/shy jenny, but this little one definitely has dad's wonderful, outgoing personality; he is ready to play 24/7!

Kasey, Asai, Mildred (Millie) and Daisy are each bred to a different jack; two will have foals in August and the other two will deliver in the spring, 2009. I'm betting these babies won't lack for attention! :) It is hard on my heart to let my mature jennys move to a new home; they are like good friends and have blessed us with beautiful babies, but Susan has promised to send updates and pictures of the foals when they are born. |

Phebe and Marie Ann are two of the sweetest little brood jennys on the place, but although they were bred in Texas, their next foals will be born in France! Phebe is bred to My World Red Alert and is due to foal late October, and Marie Ann will have her baby next spring; she is bred to little 28" spotted Ziggy! It was so hard to part with these two; they've both been with us for several years, but I know that Carole will take good care of them, and she's promised to send pictures! Update: Phebe had a tiny little jack foal! Carole says he is "perfect!" She named him Tiamo which means 'I love you" in Italian! Here's a few pictures of the little guy that she sent for us to share!
Carole has some
great pictures on her website (www.anes-miniatures.com) of her donkeys

Carole was looking for a
couple of smaller, bred gray jennys, and I sent her pictures of three that
we could offer her. She selected Phebe and Marie Ann because the third
little jenny has a black nose, and Carole said that she preferred her
donkeys not have a black nose.

Anna P. Clarke of Deer Haven Ranch has formed a partnership with Billie Wollam to raise and breed quality miniature donkeys. Billie is an experienced horse woman, and presently owns one of Anna’s miniature donkeys, two beautiful paint horses, and two sorrel mules which she keeps on her 40 acre ranch in the same area. Like the rest of us involved with miniature donkeys she has been bewitched by them and is now anxious to get started in this new venture.
Congratulations and good
luck with the new partnership! |

Sold Many thanks to Cotten's Half Ass Ranch in Longview, Texas for choosing Pocket Change as their future spotted herdsire! Mic and Rusty are putting together a nice herd of donkeys, and we are thrilled that they added three of our little spotted donkeys to their collection! We think Pocket will produce some fantastic babies when he is mature, but just think of the fun they are going to have watching him grow up! |

Sold This little jenny and her best friend, Red Feather, are the first miniature donkeys for this family, and we know they are already wrapped around Jim's heartstrings because they have been in Scottsdale for two weeks, and I haven't heard much from Jim! When I email and ask him if everything is alright, he sends back a note that says all is great, and he is busy sitting out in the pasture with the girls and reading his new donkey books! |

We took Pattie with us to
the SDMS Grand Finale Show in Corsicana for Laura to see, and I wondered
how I would recognize her as she and I had never met in person. We
hadn't been there long before I heard a loud scream; when I turned around
there was no mistaking who had made that noise! It was Laura running
as fast as she could to our stall with tears running down her cheeks and
squealing "is that my donkey, is that my little red girl?" It was
definitely love at first sight! |

Sold Last year, Karon bought donkeys for each of her daughters, but this year she's buying for herself! She fell in love with Mick when he was just a baby and now has selected him to stand herdsire for a small group of jennys that she is busy collecting! Look out! Karon has donkey fever, and her husband, Larren, is nervous! |

Sold To help Santa with his deliveries last year, Nicholas and Celestial slipped down to Texas, purchased these four little girls and hurried back to Ohio in time for Christmas with their very surprised children! What a great family, and what lucky little donkeys! |

They selected two older, bred jennys to teach them the "ropes" of donkey ownership and we are delighted that Rachel and Ginger will be staying together. We know they are good donkey teachers; they taught us! They also picked out two young jennys, and we will breed them in the fall for their first foals. And last, but certainly not least, they chose Giz, Mr. Personality Plus! We feel good that these little donkeys have moved to a good home with lots of love! |

Sold What a
lucky little guy! Love is Jub likes to have his best buddy, Ronnie (Jeanie's husband), brush him and make him a handsome dude; just wait until next year when those jennys are dating age! |
Jeanie says that Jubilee is better than any alarm system they have ever had. When he hears Ronnie's truck coming around the corner, he starts braying and doesn't stop until he gets a few donkey hugs and butt scratches! Then and only then, Ronnie can go in the house! |

Sherry and her sister have plans to open a bed & breakfast and included in their plans is an area where their guests can interact with their animal family! Guess what ......... Lani Girl and Roxanna have been "hired" to be their official PR reps! Lani has the most wonderful disposition and loves to be as close to your side as possible. She has been bred to our little spotted jack, Major Moneymaker, for an early fall 2004 foal; this will be her first baby, and what a delightful addition to their plans! Don't you know their guests will be delighted when they are greeted by these two fun-loving little jennys! |

Sundi will be moving to Nina's place with one of her best friends, Rosanna. Nina has horses, but Rosanna and Sundi are her first miniature donkeys. We had such a good time watching them steal her heart! What delightful little yearling girls, and they should be great "teachers" for first-time donkey collector, Nina. When they are older and ready to breed, they will be wonderful brood jennys and produce sweet, sweet little fuzzy babies ! |

Many thanks to Greg and Jessica Parsons Vuelo De Noche Farm Boerne, Texas Jessica fell in love with Levi Tag when he was just a few weeks old and has been waiting a long time for him to be old enough to wean. Well, that time has finally come, and Levi will be moving to his new home soon, but we know that it won't take him long to teach Jessica and Greg how to give donkey hugs and butt scratches! |

Sold Ron will be retiring soon, and the Johnson family will be moving to "The Spread" in Oakwood, Texas. When they get their fencing and barn building complete, Ron is going to teach Buddy and Moses to pull a cart full of granddaughters! We have always thought they would be perfect for cart pulling and are somewhat jealous that we haven't found time to train them ourselves. The good thing is they won't be moving far; we are almost neighbors, and we will still get to visit and watch their training lessons! |
