Hickory Hills Broadway Joe
(a.k.a.'Hollywood')

DOB: 09/08/10
Color:  red

Hollywood is a fantastic animal to work with!  In addition to his outstanding conformation, his disposition
is laid-back and cooperative!  We started him late, meaning that he wasn't a weanling/yearling,
but almost three years old, and he had to quickly learn the show ring routine.

* First Show - July 2013
The Great Celebration in Shelbyville, TN
First Place - NMDA Two Year Old Geldings at Halter

We will finish him up this year back where he started in Shelbyville, and from there, he will go
to his new home!  We're going to have to look hard to find another red gelding to fill Hollywood's shoes!

Brayers Are Us Tangueray Gin

     DOB: 03/24/01
     Current Height:  31"
     Color:  black/dark brown

        Sire:  PMF Lil Bit O'Bandito
                  31 1/2" - dark brown
              Grand Sire:  PMF Guido Bandito
                  32 1/2" - dark brown
              Grand Dam:  Bonnie's Kassie - black/brown
        Dam:  LN Charnala -
                  32 1/2" - dark brown/gray-dun
              Grand Sire:  Gladybrooks Pitch Dark
                  31 1/2" - black w/cross
Grand Dam:  LN Nala - brown

Tangueray is our 'go-to' man!  He loves to pasture with a small herd of jennys to call his own.  He is very well-mannered and never gets out of line or rough with his ladies.  He will produce beautiful black foals with fabulous 'Betty Grable' eyes when bred to dark brown jennys, and he is also a consistent producer of dark spotted foals when bred to spots!

We have a couple of jennys that are really difficult to get bred, and we use to stress over them, but now we know that if we put them in Tangueray's pasture he will take care of the situation, and we don't have to stress!

Although Tangueray was never shown, we've done very well in the show ring with several of his foals!  .

If you are breeding for black or dark spotted foals, Tangueray is as good as they come!  He will definitely earn his keep with the quality foals that he produces!

Again, we've never considered selling Tangueray; he's been with us since he was a youngster, but again, with our drought and hay situation here in Texas, we have been forced to cut down on the number of foals that we produce, and it's just not fair to have a good herdsire that produces quality foals and not use him!

* SOLD *

Tangueray has been sold and is now living in Tennessee romancing the jennys at A&B Mini Ranch!  Amanda and Brenda were looking for a herdsire and just fell in love with pictures of some of Tangueray's foals that I had shared with them ..................... do you want spots?  He can do it!  Dark Brown?  He can do that do?  Black?  No problem; he is a 'jack of all colors!'

Josette

DOB:  11/08

 Sire: Li'l Angels Galaxy
       30 1/2"- black w/cross NLP
 Dam: 758's Rosette
        35" - red

* SOLD *
And going to be making her new home in TN!

Josette is a nice, well-built jenny!  She has a wonderful, laid-back disposition and is the first one to meet you at the gate!  Josette has matured well, and we plan to breed her to our little black herdsire, LN Stuart Little B, 29 1/2" this spring for what we think will be an outstanding black foal!

Mulata

DOB:  2001

Thank you so much for falling
in love with one of our favorite girls!  Shawnee will be making her new home in Wisconsin with the Hoffman family; our vet
just confirmed that she was, indeed, safe in foal with her first baby!  We are breeding her to Tangueray Gin who although isn't spotted himself, has a great record for producing spotted foals out
of spotted jennys!

Hickory Hills Shawnee Princess

DOB:  04/28/09
Color:  brown/white spotted
Birth Height:  21"
Current Height:  34" (September 2011)
Sire: Cobra's Randy Travis
32 1/2" - brown/gray/white spotted
Dam: Short ASSets Shawnee
33 1/2" - gray-dun

The two pictures below are current; they were taken in February, 2012.

In addition to great conformation, Shawnee has an eye-catching color pattern.  We showed her once as a yearling at the big 2010 Texas Shoot Out, and she brought home a second place ribbon in a spotted halter class with donkeys all ages, all genders and all sizes.  We were delighted!

Shawnee's sire is an outstanding performance donkey, and her dam is a wonderful brood jenny.  In addition to the Cobra and Short Asset bloodlines, Shawnee's pedigree carries My World, Windcrest and  Rearview; she definitely has the right credentials!

Around the farm, she is everyone's friend and never meets a stranger!
She doesn't mind being haltered and stands quietly for the farrier!

It is a very difficult decision to offer Shawnee for sale, but the price of hay here in Texas is killing us, and we have been told to prepare for yet another summer of heat and drought!  She will be bred to Tangueray Gin who has a good record of producing spotted foals!  Fingers crossed!

In one word ............ outstanding!

SOLD

Harv picked this little gal to show when she was less than a month old; he watched her in the nursery, and
as soon as she was six months old, he put a halter on her and gave me the 'thumbs up!'  This little redhead is a full sister to Gypsy Rose, who was extremely successful in the show ring for us as a yearling and two year old!  Rosie has some big shoes to fill!

Rosie's debut in the Texas show ring was on February 13, 2011, at the San Antonio Livestock Show, and she placed 1st in the Yearling Jennys Halter Class, and later that night, she was named Junior Champion.  When we got back home, we had a message from the Show Secretary saying that Rosie had also earned Reserve Pre-Green Miniature Donkey!

Rosie recently won the Yearling Jenny at Halter Class at the SDMS Kick Up Your Hooves Show in Lufkin the middle of May!  She's a pretty little girl, and she's doing a great job of filling her big sister's show shoes!

The Great Celebration - Shelbyville, TN - July, 2011 - NMDA Yearling Jennet at Halter - 13 entries and Rosie led the field winning first place!  She walked, trotted, danced a little bit, but finally settled in like a pro, and the judge liked what he saw .............. and so do we!

Fort Smith Mule and Donkey Show - Ft. Smith, Arkansas - October 7 - 9, 2011 - Rosie is getting to be a real pro at starting us off on the right foot!  She did all the right things (when the judge was looking) and trotted out of the ring with the first place ribbon in the Yearling Jennys at Halter class!

SDMS Fall Fantastic Donkey and Mule Show - October 29 - 30, 2011 - Even though it was 'jacket weather' Rosie didn't fuss (much) when we took her blanket off and told her it was show time, but I noticed in my show pictures, her ears are back; thankfully, the judge agreed with us and thought Rosie was the best in her class and awarded her 1st place Yearling Jenny at Halter!

End of the Year Awards - 2011 GCDMA ASSpiring to Greatness Award
First - Yearling Jennys at Halter

Rosie has been sold!  And although we are sad to see her leave our farm, we look forward
to seeing Rosie and her new owner in the 2012 show ring!  Harv has already said that he will be in the stands
cheering for Rosie and definitely not competing against her!  :)

Updates:  Rosie won her two-year old jenny class at the River Valley Mule and Donkey Show in May and then went
on and was named Reserved Champion Miniature Donkey!  What a great beginning for Rosie and her new owner!

Rosie and Sandy won the two-year old jenny halter class at the 2012  Great Celebration Donkey and Mule Show in Shelbyville, TN.  Last year in 2011, she and Harv placed first in the yearling jenny class; way to go Rosie!

In 2013, Sandy was dealing with some health issues and asked Harv if he would take Rosie and show her .................
and of course, Harv immediately said 'yes!'  Rosie had another great year and officially retired from the show ring once again,
as a champion!

End of the Year Awards - 2013 GCDMA ASSpiring to Greatness Award
Class Champion - Three Year and Over Jennys at Halter

Rosie has gone home with her new owner, Sandy Murphy, and together they are waiting patiently (well, it doesn't seem to be bothering Rosie, but Sandy is a basket of nerves) for Rosie to give birth to her first foal.  Yes, Zydeco was the lucky guy, and this foal should be outstanding!

Looking for an outstanding spotted herdsire!  Major is your man, and he is looking for a nice herd of jennys to romance!

Major has been our primary spotted herdsire for seven years, and we have been extremely pleased with the babies he has produced for us!   We breed him to both solid and spotted jennys, and he always gives us a nice quality baby with his great laid-back disposition, and the majority of the time, it's spotted!

We sell most of his foals as weanlings, and those that we have kept have matured into nice jennys and are doing a good job for us in our brood jenny herd.

We have decided to offer Major for sale as our breeding program now limits the number of jennys that we have for Major; we are going to breed predominately for reds and blacks.

Major is just too good to not use, so we've made the difficult decision to offer him for sale.  A good home is a must!

If you are breeding for spots now or just starting out, you can't go wrong with Major!  He is a gentleman in the pasture and treats his jennys with respect!  Major would be an excellent asset to your  breeding program!

"Major is our Daddy!"

   Dam:  Perfection's Red Glory Day
              33 3/4" - Dark Red
World Champion Jennet - 2001 Calgary Stampede

If you are breeding for small and red, don't pass this little guy up; Stars and Stripes is nothing short of fantastic!  He is a solid little jack, great laid-back disposition and a real gentleman in the breeding pasture.

In addition to breeding our jennys, Stripes gets more outside jennys to breed than any of our herdsires; he definitely earns his 'keep!'  He is a real 'eye catcher and has it all in one neat package!

Stripes has done a good job for us, and it's been a hard decision to offer him for sale, but we won't have any jennys for him next year,
and he is too good to 'put on the shelf .............. so here he is!

He would be an asset to any breeding program, especially one that is breeding for those pretty red babies.  He 'trademarks' his babies with good bone structure and wonderful wide/straight legs, and  usually they have a star on their foreheads!

Halter Champions in the Texas Show Ring

These two 'old men' are best buddies, and we are so happy that they are staying together in their new home in New Mexico; they would be such sad little donks without each other for company!

Thanks so much to John and Patricia
for falling in love with Concho and Buckskin

Concho

    DOB: 01/07/04
    Sex:  Gelding
    Color:  Gray-dun w/large star
    Sire:  Tex-Ass Frontier Legends Chisholm
           32" - dark brown
Dam:  Country Music's Dale Ann Bradley
           33 1/4" - gray-dun

What can I say ............... this little guy gave us the thrill of a lifetime; at 14 months, he was named Grand Champion Gelding at the 2005 Houston Rodeo and Livestock Show.  We were thrilled; well truthfully, we were on top of the world!  We had just started showing our donkeys, and it was a big class of geldings of all ages; the older gelding that placed Reserve Champion was at the front of the class lineup and Concho was last in line!  We watched as the judge walked from one end to the other for what seemed like an eternity, he finally signed and turned in his scorecard!  We waited anxiously as they called out the placings from sixth back to second; Concho and Harv were still "listening" for their back number, and I was about to have a heart attack ............ then, the announcer called Concho's name as Grand Champion!  The audience cheered, and I thought Harv was going to skip out of the ring!  What a fun day!

We showed him on the Texas show circuit for the rest of that year and several times in 2006; he won other Champion/Reserve Champion and firsts/seconds, but the Houston show will always be one of our best memories ever!

Concho has a great disposition, is built like a tank and is the perfect size for cart training!  He has worked hard for two years and always did a fantastic job for us in the show ring, and he has definitely earned his retirement.  I think he really enjoyed staying home with his buddies this year!

Buckskin Joe

    DOB:  06/28/04

    Color:  Dark Brown
    Sire:  Willow Creek Luigi
           31 3/4" - dark brown
    Dam:  Golden Papiollon's Precious Periodot
           30 1/4" - dark brown

This little gelding has been outstanding in the show ring for us!  He didn't really get his opportunity to shine until late 2006 as both he and Concho are the same age, and we always had to make a choice to show one or the other!  But when we retired Concho, Buckskin stepped up to the challenge!  We couldn't be happier; he has been outstanding!  Buckskin filled in where Concho left off; he has won numerous awards, most recently, he was named Grand Champion Gelding at the 2007 San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo!

Buckskin has a wonderful, laid-back disposition, but when it's show time .........he is all business; he puts on his game face and stands perfectly for the judge.  He is so willing to please, and he too should make an outstanding cart donkey!

    Dam:  CF Hannibelle
           33 1/2" - brown/gray/white spotted

Update from the show ring at Shelbyville, TN:  After four days of being stalled, Friday morning was finally Mac's turn to show, and he loved it!  His first class was for color recognition only, and he showed in a class of about 15 donkeys 'any size, any sex and any age' and won himself a fifth place ribbon!  And then Saturday morning, Mac and Harv participated in our first ACOSA (American Council of Spotted Asses) show; Mac was in a class of nine - two year old and under jacks.  This time, he placed third behind two nice older jacks; we were delighted!  He is a real eye catching little guy and loves to trot!

The "grand finale" of 2008 was well worth the wait; Mac was born late in the evening three weeks after his due date!  We were looking for black as this same cross (Tangueray Gin and Hannibelle) produced Emilee, a beautiful black jenny foal, the last time, but this one is a gorgeous little spotted guy!

Who would have guessed it!  Yes, he's a Tangueray boy, so he has
a gin name .......... McCormick Gin, and he is outstanding!

Mac has been registered and shown in both American Donkey and Mule Society (ADMS) and the American Council of Spotted Asses (ACOSA) classes; he has what it takes to win — conformation, attitude and color; he should do very well!

If you are looking for WOW, Mac is your guy!

Red Hot Chili Pepper

    DOB:  10/31/05
    Sex:  Gelding
    Color:  Dark Red (sorrel)
Sire:  My World Red Alert B-95
           31 1/2" - dark red
    Dam:  758's Peppermint
           33 1/2" - red

Updates:  Chili was just named NMDA Reserve Champion Gelding at the 2009 Great Celebration Donkey and Mule Show in Shelbyville, TN.

Chili was named Reserve Champion Gelding at the 2009 San Antonio Livestock Expo and was Grand Champion Halter Gelding at the 2008 Fort Worth Livestock Show.

What can I say .............. he is outstanding and he is red!  What else could you ask for!  Chili's first show was in May, 2006; he was seven months old and won the yearling jack class!  We took him to one/two more shows last year, but we really didn't campaign him until 2007, as we had another jack that was four months older than Chili, and they had to show in the same classes in 2006.  Our friends couldn't believe it when we told them that we were going to geld Chili; they thought we had lost our minds, but actually we think that was one of the better decisions that we have made ............. Chili has been a winner for us this year showing as a young gelding; he is always in the top half of the class and most often either first or second place, and we only anticipate him getting better as he gets older and matures.  Chili won his class and was named Reserve Champion Gelding at the SDMS Fall Jamboree in November!  He looked fantastic!

His birthday is the end of October, and here in Texas, all donkeys turn a year older the first of January; so when Chili was actually two months old, he was considered a yearling in the show ring.  When Buckskin won Grand Champion at San Antonio this year, Chili won his gelding class and then competed against Buckskin and the older geldings for Grand/Reserve; the two older geldings won, but Chili looked like a winner to me!  Of course, I'm pretty biased; he use to take naps in my lap when he was a baby!  :)

Earle Gray

    DOB:  03/24/08
    Height:  28 1/2" - 04/11/09

           28 1/2" - gray/white spotted
    Dam:  Hauenstein's Lil Miss Debutante
           30" - brown/gray/white spotted

Earle's conformation is exceptional; he is near perfect in every way; he looks like an adult in a little boy's body!  He still loves to run and play with his guy friends, but he is beginning to talk a little 'romance' with the girls!

Being out of two spotted parents, it will be interesting to see what he produces, especially when bred to spotted jennys!

Earle is busy here in Texas at our local quarantine facility romancing jennys that were recently rescued when the owner was forced
to find them a new home.

He was late ......... but well worth waiting for!
It's a boy!  He was due on January 29, but the joke was on us; Jazzy knew what she was doing and made us wait until she was ready to surprise us with an absolutely gorgeous little black jack with a big white star on his forehead!  His dad is Smoke, and we couldn't help it; we had to name him "Holy Smoke!" :)  No other name would fit!  He is an outstanding foal, and he has his dad's fantastic, laid-back disposition!

Many thanks to Copper Star Miniature Donkeys, Woodbine, MD

Brad and Emily have big plans for this little guy!  They've put together a nice group of jennys, and Holy Smoke will be the #1 man around the farm!

What a cutie!  This little one was born the day after we got home from the National Show; we slept in a bit later than usual, and when we opened the blinds in the breakfast area, there he stood (all 19" of him); he was fluffed out and ready to play!  His mom is a tiny, petite jenny and doesn't make a nice milk bag until after the baby is born, so it's really hard to predict exactly "when" we should be looking for a foal!  Mom is a very quiet/shy jenny, but this little one definitely has dad's wonderful, outgoing personality; he is ready to play 24/7!

- Sold -
Many thanks to Susan Phillips of Oxford, Mississippi

Susan first saw minis on TV and immediately fell in love!  She has chosen these four mature bred jennys to start her herd, and we know that they will bring her lots of love and happiness for many years to come!  Kasey, Asai, Mildred (Millie) and Daisy are each bred to a different jack; two will have foals in August and the other two will deliver in the spring, 2009.  I'm betting these babies won't lack for attention!  :)

It is hard on my heart to let my mature jennys move to a new home; they are like good friends and have blessed us with beautiful babies, but Susan has promised to send updates and pictures of the foals when they are born.

Hickory Hills Joleen

Country Place Julie Ann

- Sold -
Thanks and Best of Luck to Maggie McDonald
in Eros, Louisiana

Maggie is a "newbie" to miniature donkeys; one of her good friends was moving and couldn't take her little 30" herdsire to the new place, so Maggie bought him and has now found the perfect three little jennys for him to romance.  Lexie and Joleen will have to get a bit older before they are ready to breed, but Julie Ann is three years old and ready to flirt!

  Phebe and Marie Ann

Phebe and Marie Ann are two of the sweetest little brood jennys on the place, but although they were bred in Texas, their next foals will be born in France!  Phebe is bred to My World Red Alert and is due to foal late October, and Marie Ann will have her baby next spring; she is bred to little 28" spotted Ziggy!  It was so hard to part with these two; they've both been with us for several years, but I know that Carole will take good care of them, and she's promised to send pictures!

Update:  Phebe had a tiny little jack foal!  Carole says he is "perfect!"  She named him Tiamo which means 'I love you" in Italian!  Here's a few pictures of the little guy that she sent for us to share!

Carole has some great pictures on her website (www.anes-miniatures.com) of her donkeys leaving Texas on their way to their new home in France.

Many thanks to
Carole De Koster
   of France

Carole was looking for a couple of smaller, bred gray jennys, and I sent her pictures of three that we could offer her.  She selected Phebe and Marie Ann because the third little jenny has a black nose, and Carole said that she preferred her donkeys not have a black nose.

Can you hear me laughing?  Just two short weeks later, Carole sent me this picture of the cutest little black nosed donkey that had just been born at her farm.  After 10 years of breeding minis, for Carole, this was a first!

You can visit Carole and her donkeys (including the little one with the black nose that already has won Carole's heart) at www.anes-miniatures.com.

Priscilla (Grannie, as we tenderly call her) will be going to live at Molasses Meadows with Stella and Pearl and their BIG sister, Coalie!  Thanks to Glen and Sara Smith for falling in love with Priscilla!  Actually, Priscilla picked them; she follows them all over (and I mean all over) our place whenever they come to visit!

Thanks to
Stephanie Dove
Brayers Are Us Miniature Donkeys
Steph is putting together a nice herd of sorrels and needed to add some of that good old Rosebud bloodline to the mix!

We have three more sorrels due, and if one of them isn't a great little red jenny like Twist and Gypsy, Steph even said that we could keep one of "hers"
to show next year!

We will be delivering these little ones to Steph's place about the first of the year, and that could be bad for our donkey budget!  We can never leave Karnes City without falling in love with at least a couple of her donkeys!

Congratulations and welcome to the wonderful world of miniature donkeys to Emily
Gollner!

When Emily emailed that she couldn't find any miniature donkeys in her area, I sent her pictures of several young jennys that we had available, and without hesitation, she selected Bunny and Cindy, the "Barbie girls!"  These two petite jennys are adorable and will be the talk of the town in Woodbine, Maryland.

Emily teaches school and had a busy summer planned that included a honeymoon cruise, but she managed to find time to get her barn "downsized" and ready for her two new girls.

When we got the call that Bunny and Cindy had arrived at their new home safely, you could hear the excitement in Emily's voice; in fact,
she told us "they are perfect!"

Here's Emily sharing a hug with the girls and telling them that they better go give Brad a donkey hug!

And here are Bunny and Cindy doing just what mom told them to do ................. "charming dad!"

   Red Rover

- SOLD -

When Steve asked Beth what she wanted for her birthday, she said something that started with "R" so he guessed a radio for her new truck .................... wrong!  It was Red Rover, and we are excited that he will be staying in Texas; in fact, he will be making his home with Beth and Steve in New Caney along with Cotton, Jake and Magellan.

Beth showed Red Rover at halter twice for us this year and placed in the ribbons both times; she's planning to show him at halter again next year and then when he is almost three, she is going to teach him to drive.  His disposition is perfect for a driving donkey, and his beautiful sorrel color is a plus!  Look for Beth and Red Rover in the winner's circle!

Joe was looking for geldings when he first visited us, but when he got ready to "stock" his new donkey farm, he purchased two older bred jennys and two yearling jennys ............... but then called back to see if our trailer would hold six donkeys!  He just couldn't get these two boys off his mind!  I laughed and told him that he, indeed, had a good case of donkey fever!

Dr. Anna Clarke brings over 40 years of veterinary expertise to the miniature donkey field
and a lifelong passion for donkeys that hail from her native Ireland.

Anna P. Clarke of Deer Haven Ranch has formed a partnership with Billie Wollam to raise and breed quality miniature donkeys.  Billie is an experienced horse woman, and presently owns one of Anna’s miniature donkeys, two beautiful paint horses, and two sorrel mules which she keeps on her 40 acre ranch in the same area.  Like the rest of us involved with miniature donkeys she has been bewitched by them and is now anxious to get started in this new venture.

Congratulations and good luck with the new partnership!

Many thanks to Jim Flaum for letting us introduce him to the wonderful world of miniature donkeys!

This little jenny and her best friend, Red Feather, are the first miniature donkeys for this family, and we know they are already wrapped around Jim's heartstrings  because they have been in Scottsdale for two weeks, and I haven't heard much from Jim!  When I email and ask him if everything is alright, he sends back a note that says all is great, and he is busy sitting out in the pasture with the girls and reading his new donkey books!

   Peppermint Pattie

and many thanks to Laura Butler of Mingus, Texas
for falling in love with this beautiful little redhead!

We took Pattie with us to the SDMS Grand Finale Show in Corsicana for Laura to see, and I wondered how I would recognize her as she and I had never met in person.  We hadn't been there long before I heard a loud scream; when I turned around there was no mistaking who had made that noise!  It was Laura running as fast as she could to our stall with tears running down her cheeks and squealing "is that my donkey, is that my little red girl?"  It was definitely love at first sight!

Look for Pattie in the show ring next year!  Laura is already planning her new show wardrobe ............... something in powder blue!

Many thanks to Jack and Diane Marino of Hearne, Texas

Recently, a helicopter landed in our pasture and out hopped Jack and Diane; they came to meet our donkeys. After rubbing on donkeys, giving donkey hugs and yes, a few butt scratches ― they had a good case of "donkey fever!"

They selected two older, bred jennys to teach them the "ropes" of donkey ownership and we are delighted that Rachel and Ginger will be staying together.  We know they are good donkey teachers; they taught us!  They also picked out two young jennys, and we will breed them in the fall for their first foals. And last, but certainly not least, they chose Giz, Mr. Personality Plus!  We feel good that these little donkeys have moved to a good home with lots of love!
